Spirituality, history and legend entwine here in many ancient archaeological sites from the iconic McCarthy Tower to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Skellig Michael - one of the earliest and most well preserved, christian spiritual centres in Ireland. Ballinskelligs is a renowned Gaeltacht (Irish speaking area) and many students come here specially, to perfect their Irish and acquire the beautiful 'blás' of the Munster dialect.
